Major Requirements
BA DEGREE IN SPANISH
Effective, Fall 2012
The requirements for the BA Degree in Spanish are as follows:
Choose one of the following three options.
Literature Option: upper-division requirements (11 courses)
- Spanish 101A & 101B or 109A & 109B
- Spanish 110 (a prerequisite for all upper-division literature courses)
- Spanish 180A or 180B
- Spanish 181A or 181B
- Five upper-division elective courses in Spanish
- Spanish 193
Linguistics Option: upper-division requirements (11 courses)
- Spanish 101A & 101B or 109A & 109B
- Spanish 105, 106, and 107 (Ling 20 is a prerequisite for SPN 105)
- Spanish 110 (a prerequisite for all upper-division literature courses)
- Four upper-division elective courses (At least two of which must be in Spanish; it is highly recommended that students take LING 111 and LING141.)
- Spanish 193
Cultural Studies Option: upper-division requirements (11 courses)
- Spanish 101A & 101B or 109A & 109B
- Spanish 110 (a prerequisite for all upper-division literature courses)
- One course from Spanish 122A, 122B, 165, 188
- Two courses from Spanish 125 (E-Z)/MCS (E-Z)/LNST 125 (E-Z), 145, 171/MCS171, 172, 179/MCS 179/LNST 109/WMST 179, 185/MCS 185/LNST 185, 187
- Four upper-division elective courses (At least three of which must be in Spanish. One may be in a related area.)
