Biography

Professor Schiwy is interested in the way power and knowledge are constituted and contested through diverse media and how constructions of race and gender play themselves out in these processes. She is currently writing a book on fiction and documentary video by Andean indigenous media makers that theorizes decolonization. In the future she is planning to interrogate the psychoanalytical grounding of feminist film theory in contrast to debates over psychoanalysis and coloniality by comparing new South American and West African cinemas. She is co-editor of Indisciplinar las ciencias sociales and co-editor of a dossier on the geopolitics of knowledge in the journal Nepantl:. Views from South.
